May Member of the Month - Chris McDermott

Congratulations to the May Member of the Month: Chris McDermott! Chris joined us just over a year ago, when he moved to Guelph for a 2 year work assignment with Denso, an automotive parts manufacturer about 500m from the gym. Chris is a Michigan native, who will sadly leave us in a years time, but until then we are lucky to have him as a member!


Chris quickly jumped into our community, attending every social event he is able to make (when he isn't on assignment with the US Navy). In the last 12 months he has attended over 150 classes, showing massive improvements in his lifts, overall strength and stamina. Most recently crushing his Navy PRT (physical readiness test).


Chris has enjoyed leaning and being coached at CrossFit 1827 so much he has taken his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer course and now runs the 5am class! If you haven't been helped or been treated specially by Chris, you are in the minority. For example last Sunday, Pauline's car battery died after yoga. Chris boosted her car and then went to her house to install a new car battery to save her the $200 CAA would charge. Chris definitely embodies the member of the month and community at 1827!

How did you get into CrossFit:

I've known about CrossFit since 2012, but didn't have access to a good box until I moved to Guelph.  When I first got here I dropped into all the gyms in the area.   It was an easy decision, I was welcomed by Dan & Amber and quickly discovered 1827 has the world's best CrossFit family!   


Favourite Class Time to attend: 

6AM!!  #MorningPeople  Contrary to popular belief, 5AM is only out of necessity.   I love getting my workout in first thing in the morning because life is unpredictable.   


Favourite Movement(s): 

I like all the functional movements and have grown to love the gymnastics and yoga moments as mobility improves.

Least Favourite Movement(s): 

Turkish Get-up


Favourite Cheat Meal/Food: 

Mint chocolate chip ice cream and carbs (Yup, the whole macro-nutrient)
